REAR ADMIRAL EUGENE J. CARROLL, JR.:

Eugene J. Carroll, Jr., Rear Admiral, United States Navy (retired), has had a long and distinguished naval career, including combat duty in Korea and Vietnam. He was promoted to the rank of rear admiral in 1972, acting as commander of Task Force 60, the carrier striking force of the United States Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Subsequently, he was appointed to the staff of General Alexander Haig in NATO, and later became assistant deputy chief of naval operations for Plans, Policy and Operations in the Pentagon. In that capacity, he engaged in American naval planning for both conventional and nuclear war. Since his retirement from the navy in 1980, Admiral Carroll has worked as deputy director at the Center for Defense Information, in Washington, D.C. He is actively engaged in research and analysis on defence issues, and writes and speaks frequently on the need for rational American military programs which will not fuel the arms race and increase the danger of nuclear war.
